The Impact of September 11th on Jurors
Considerable social science research has been conducted on
the impact of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on
America. Although many people suffered significant emotional
distress from the attacks, most research has shown that there
have been no major changes in peoples lives since September
11th. Studies of jurors have reported no generalized impact
of September 11th on verdicts. Attempts by attorneys to influence
juries by comparing their trial to the tremendous loss experienced
from the terrorist attacks have been shown to backfire: Juries
resent these attempts to manipulate them. Magnus Research
Consultants has been polling mock jurors about the impact
of September 11th on their lives. Look for an article in the
next few months that will reveal our findings.
