The Supreme Court moved to its current location in 1949. The price of the building was $1.7 million; in today's cost, the marble columns alone would exceed that amount. During the construction of the eastern portion of the building, an assortment of objects were placed inside the cornerstone. These items include a photograph of a Seminole Indian Chief playing golf in Fort Myers and sheet music from the song "Dixie".
